An elderly person under home quarantine in Raa Meedhoo has died earlier today.

Speaking to ‘The Press’, a member of Meedhoo council Razzan Zareer said that a 72-year-old local woman had died this morning while under home quarantine.

He said that the person was granted permission to quarantine at home on the 8th of this month and that the woman was fighting cancer.

Razzan said that the woman was rushed to the islands Health Center after her condition deteriorated and that she passed away while under treatment.

He also said that a COVID-19 sample was taken from the deceased postmortem and the sample has been dispatched to Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital for testing.

Razzan said last rites would be performed once the results for the COVID-19 comes back and would follow normal protocols if the test comes back negative.
