A middle-aged man, who is alleged with sexually abusing a four year old minor while holding the position of a trustworthy entity, has been remanded until the end of trial.

Shuau Shareef, aged 32 is alleged with sexually abusing his own four year old daugther while the court of first instance ordered for his remand.

The alleged abuser was arrested following a complaint lodged at Maldives Police on the evening of 3 August which was succeeded by a court order. He was arrested on the following day, on 4 August.

Following his arrest and subsequent summoning at the court of first instance, Shuau was released during the remand hearing. However, prosecution requested to review the court's decision of releasing him. The court found his release will pose dangers to society and children based upon the arguments raised by Prosecutor General's Office.

Moreover, prosecution argued the possibility of the alleged perpetrator attempting to erase evidence as he is alleged with conducting sexual abuse while holding a trustworthy designation to the victim. Prosecution further states the evidence collected by Maldives Police Service against the alleged suspect was substantial enough to hold Shuau in remand in accordance with the Act: 12/2016.

Meanwhile Maldives Police Service confirms the authority was attempting to conclude their investigation on the case and present it to Prosecutor General's office.
