Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal says the renovations made to his government office are not done in secrecy and that these were budgeted projects.
In a tweet, the Minister said that when he took over the post, his office was less than desirable and that renovations were ongoing even today. He said this work was not being done in secrecy and the renovation work was well within the Ministry’s budget.
Minister Maleeh said it can be proven that such projects are carried out in a way that they can be audited and also finished in a transparent manner.
He went onto share videos of the work currently underway at his office.
The Minister's comments came as the government faced harsh criticism over photos of the newly renovated health Ministry made rounds on social media.
The reports said that the extravagantly decorated room was Minister Abdullah Ameen’s cabin.
But the Health Ministry was quick to deny these reports and said that the circulated images were that of a conference room in the Ministry. It also said that the rooms would be rented for events and the money made from such rentals would be used by the government’s health fund
