Raa Hulhudufaaru Council has confirmed that a person under home quarantine on the island has tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ Hulhudufaaru council member Ibrahim Shifaz said that the person who tested positive for COVID-19 in the island was women and had returned back from Male’ yesterday.

Shifaz said that the woman had tested for COVID-19 before returning back to the island from the capital city and her test results came back positive yesterday.

Shifaz assured that the woman had followed the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency HPA during her travels and subsequent home quarantine and that the individual had no contacts on the island.

HPA had now made it mandatory for citizens in islands with active cases of COVID-19 to wear facemasks in public.

It also recommended inhabitants of islands without confirmed cases of the pandemic to also don masks in public as a precautionary measure.
