Authorities have advised several individuals for breaching the health and safety protocols imposed by the Maldives government.

Sources confirm a total of 120 individuals were intervened by authorities and advised to wear face masks while on streets and outside of their residences, on Wednesday.

Dr. Nazla Rafeeq, the spokesperson of Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) attested to this during Wednesday evening's press conference.

According to Dr. Nazla in addition to the 120 individuals who were advised, authorities had fined 19 individuals found outside on the road without wearing face masks.

She further confirms the figures were exclusive for Wednesday, adding a total of 986 individuals have been advised and 150 fined so far for being found without wearing masks.

Under the new guidelines, individuals found outside on the roads or at public venues without wearing face masks will be fined with MVR1000.

The exceptions to face masks include children under the age of two and individuals unable to wear or take-off face masks on their own as well as runners and joggers during exercise hours.

During a conference by National Task Force on Thursday, 30 July, face masks were made mandatory to wear while going outside.
