Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) issues yellow alert on the southern region of the country following worsening weather conditions.

According to MET Office, the yellow alert has been issued from Thaa atoll to Addu City which will remain effective from 21:30hrs of Wednesday evening until 01:00hrs of early Thursday morning.

Meanwhile the weather forecast authority confirm the specified region will experience heavy rain followed by thunder and strong gusts.

Moreover MET Office has issued a white alert spanning from Kaafu atoll to Addu City effective from 20:30hrs of Wednesday evening until 01:30hrs of early Thursday morning, over expected weather conditions.

The weather forecast authority warns Maldives will experience heavy rainfall to several parts of the country while wind speed is expected to pick up pace between 5 to 15 miles per hour from North-Northeast direction in southern areas. Furthermore wind speed is expected to pick up pace between 10 to 20 miles per hour from West-Southwest direction for other parts of the country.

Furthermore, MET Office confirms waves are expected to measure between 2 to 4 feet in height for southern regions while it will be between 3 to 6 feet in central Maldives.
