Health Protection Agency HPA has placed Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo under monitoring after an individual on the island tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking to ‘The Press’, President of Ihavandhoo Council Mohamed Rasheed said that the individual had traveled to the island on a boat named ‘242’. He also said that when the person tested positive for COVID-19, the individual was not under home quarantine and the positive result came in late last night.

He also said that the boat supplies goods and has docked in Ihavandhoo last Tuesday. Rasheed also said that individuals aboard the boat were not required to quarantine themselves as they did not disembark in Male’ where the pandemic is rampant.

He also said that none of the individuals who traveled aboard the boat showed any signs of the illness.

The Council president also said authorities were now identifying contacts of the individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

While HPA had placed the island under monitoring, the statement released by the island council urged the residents not to go out unless absolutely necessary and to don facemasks when going outside.
