Police have issued summons to former MP of Hoarafushi constituency Mohamed Ismail and former Managing Director of Fenaka Mohamed Nimal over the demonstrations organized by the opposition on Sunday.

The Police chit said they were summoned after they called on the public to topple a legitimately elected government while also inciting public discourse against the government.

It also said the two had impeded pedestrians and motorists on the road during the protests.

The chit send to former MP Mohamed Ismail summoned him to police at 3:00 pm this afternoon while Nimal was summoned to police at 4:00 pm today.

The opposition-held the demonstrations in Male’ on Sunday at the junction between Majeedhee Magu and Chandhanee Magu.

In a statement issued earlier this month, the Home Ministry had said that those who organize protests and demonstrations in the capital should acquire a permit from the police beforehand.
