A woman who went to labor at Hulhumale’ Hospital tests positive for COVId-19 after a routine test taken at the hospital.

The Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC confirmed to ‘The Press’ that the woman was tested before being admitted at the hospital after going into labor but tested positive for COVID-19.

HEOC also said that the patient had now been admitted to the hospital and that contact tracing for the woman is currently underway.

The Hulhumale’ Hospital is yet to announce its protocol in treating COVID-19 patients.

Previously, the country’s main hospital IGMH also reported several cases of COVID-19 within the hospital as few were reported in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit ICU. These include staff, patients, and relatives of patients as well.

A total of 3175 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since its first case back in March. The Health Protection Agency has said that 2498 people have since recovered from the illness with over 647 active cases in the country.

The Maldives has reported 15 COVID-19 deaths including 10 Maldivians and 5 foreigners.
