Maldives Police Service have summoned the former Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed for questioning.
The ex-minister was ordered to visit the headquarters of local law enforcement authority at 20:30hrs on Sunday evening. Prior to his summoning police had raided the ex-minister's residence and confiscated some of electronic items.
Earlier on 12 July, police confirmed some of the electronic devices belonging to Ali Waheed were confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation following several allegations made on him. Police had confiscated the ex-minister's mobile phone and laptop.
During a press conference held by police on 16 July, the authority's Chief Inspector Mariyam Azma confirmed testimonies from 15 individuals in relation to the allegations against Waheed were collected. However, the authority refrained from disclosing personal details of the witnesses.
Several employees of the ministry formally lodged complaints with Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, alleging the ex-minister of sexual misconduct, harassment and abuse.
Following this the minister was requested to step down from his designation which was not officially complied by Waheed resulting in his termination by the executive.
