A female staff working for a parliamentary committee has tested positive for COVID-19 as authorities confirmed that the pandemic is spreading at a faster rate than 3 weeks ago.

Media Director at the Parliament Hassan Ziyau confirmed that a staff working for a parliamentary committee had tested positive for COVID-19.

Ziyau said the result of the staff’s test came in around 10:00 am this morning and the parliament secretariat was now working with the Health Protection Agency to conclude the contact tracing for the infected staff member.

He also said that work was already underway to disinfect the parliament building.

This is the third time a staff member from the Parliament had tested positive for COVID-19.

Last night, Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the COVID-19 global pandemic is spreading at a much faster rate compared to 3 weeks before.

In the last ten days, a total of 413 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 and most of these have been confirmed as locals.

The total number of positive cases now stands at 2930 in the country.
