Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that more than 200 Maldivians have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last seven days as the country adapts to the new normal way of life amid the pandemic.

In its latest tweet, HPA reported that 30 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 today, and out of that 29 were locals.

This takes the number of locals tested positive for the virus in the past seven days to a staggering 250.

The other individual who tested positive for COVID-19 today was a Bangladeshi national.

HPA also confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now climbed to 2831.

Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that 19 individuals recovered from the illness in the last 24 hours in the Maldives taking the total number of recovered to a promising 2321.

Currently, there are 482 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

HPA had said that while 423 remained in various isolation facilities only 32 remained under quarantine at different facilities.

The Maldives has reported 14 COVID-19 related deaths since April of this year and this includes 9 Maldivians and 5 foreigners. The locals who passed away of COVID-19 include 5 women and 4 men; all senior citizens and most with underlying health issues.
