A 17 year old minor has become the most recent victim of sexual intimidation and harassment. The case was reported in Maldives capital; Male' City.
Maldives Police Service on Tuesday confirms of receiving a report of a 17 year old minor, who was victimized by yet unknown perpetrators. Authorities claim the minor was assaulted into intimidation before sexually harassed.
Local law enforcement further claims the case was lodged at the authority sometime on Tuesday dawn.
Although authorities have not made any arrests in relation to the incident, Maldives Police confirm they were currently investigating the case for possible suspects.
Recently the number of sexual offenses against minors and infants have been rising in the island nation; resulting in an all-out public outrage over apparent negligence of authorities with the mandated responsibilities.
Many have continued to come down to the streets in protest, voicing their concern and frustration for repetitive impunity towards sexual offenders.
Sexual assaults on women and children have not 'risen' in this country, but the decades long tabus are finally broken and crimes come to light. Now it's up to the judges to step up - to protect the victim and punish the perpetrator. - Not the other way round.
