Health Protection Agency HPA reports 67 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives taking the number of cases confirmed in the past three days to an alarmingly high level.

In its latest tweet, HPA confirmed that out of the 67 new cases reported yesterday 52 were Maldivians with 14 Bangladeshis and 1 Indian also tested positive for the virus.

This takes the number of Maldivians tested positive for COVID-19 in the past three days to a staggering 139.

Latest HPA statistics show that a total of 1082 locals have now tested positive for COVID-19 in the country since March of this year.

With yesterday’s new cases, the total number of cases in the country has now climbed to 2731.

Meanwhile, HPA also confirmed that 16 people have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking the total recovered to 2284. This accounts for 83 percent of the positive cases reported in the Maldives.

HPA also revealed that the number of active cases have again jumped to 419. It said that 353 people were isolated while 71 individuals remained under quarantine.

The Maldives has reported 13 COVID-19, which includes 8 locals and 5 foreigners. The locals who passed away due to COVID-19 include 4 women and 4 men.

The government had implemented its third lockdown ease earlier this month, which allowed general public movement within the capital city of Male’ without a police permit between 5:00 am to 11:00 pm.

The government also allowed all retail services to resume operations while café’s, restaurants, salons, and gyms were also allowed to open their doors. while schools have been holding sessions for upper grades, communal prayers have also resumed in the Male' Area.
