The Maldives Police Service are currently active at an area on sea near Laamu atoll after discovering a dinghy underwater.
Meanwhile local law enforcement authority confirms they received the report of a dinghy found fully submerged in the sea sometime on Sunday, and their officers were active on site to crane the vessel above water.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) on the other hand notes they had no participation in the operation. Though normally such incidents are primarily handled by the authority.
While a dinghy has been discovered under water near Laamu atoll, the human remains washed up ashore Thaa atoll Kandoodhoo on 11 June 2020. Though the two incidents cannot be connected at this time, authorities are expected to look for clues that may connect the two incidents.
Meanwhile Maldives reports over 150 disapperances at the sea over the past 8 years, with several of these cases going cold without any substantial results.
Locals have urged to authorities to trace the whereabouts of two such cases in recent years which includes the disappearance of Addu City Police Corporal Mohamed Sumaid and Aminath Shima Nafiz who was last confirmed traveling from a Laamu atoll island via a dinghy before her sudden disappearance.
