President of the Guesthouse Association of Maldives GAM Moosa Nasih has tendered his resignation from the post.
In a statement, Nasih said that an employee had reported an incident of sexual harassment at the workplace to the association’s steering committee on the 23rd of June and the GAM’s internal committee had further investigated the allegation.
He said that even though the incident has been reported, the current environment would not allow a thorough and objective investigation into the matter and this has forced him to resign from his post as the President of GAM.
This comes after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had fired Tourism Minister Ali Waheed earlier today amid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior at the workplace by the former Minister.
His dismissal, which shocked the nation, comes at a time where Solih’s government is under scrutiny for its tolerance towards sexual crimes that have risen in the last couple of months with several high profile cases now under investigation.
This includes an alleged rape of a Kenyan woman aboard a safari marooned in the Lagoon of hulhumale with accusations that the perpetrators were related to the president and hence were released from police custody although arrested from the scene of the crime.
