Health Protection Agency HPA confirms a 12th person has died of COVID-19 in the Maldives with the number of deaths increasing in the past two weeks.

In its latest tweet, HPA said that an-83-year-old local man passed away from COVID-19 earlier today.

HPA had confirmed that the person had been under treatment at Dharumavantha hospital 11th floor, DH11.

Yesterday a 77-year-old local woman died of COVID-19 while under treatment at DH11.

The 12 people who died of COVID-19 in the Maldives include 7 locals and five foreigners.

The locals who died of COVID-19 include 3 women and 4 men. All except for one were above 80 years when they died of the highly contagious illness.

Four Bangladeshis and one Filipino national have also died of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
