Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital says 11 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed from the hospital after staff working in the ICU of the hospital tested positive for the virus.
In a press briefing, IGMH Dr. Ali Nazeem clarified that the 11 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 from the hospital include the Indonesian cancer patient who died last week as well as 4 other patients, 4 staff and 3 relatives.
He said 2 out of the four patients who tested positive for COVID-19 had been moved to Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor DH11 while the other two had been shifted to Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.
Dr. Nazeem said 27 staff from the hospital has been placed under home quarantine and that this includes 18 nurses, 7 doctors, and 2 biomedical engineers. He said that contact-tracing work was still underway for the positive cases from the hospital.
Dr. Nazeem also said that as cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the hospital those visiting patients admitted in IGMH must take extra precautions and that the hospital would also work to strengthen its screening process.
The Maldives has confirmed 2435 COVID-19 cases in the country although 2030 have now recovered from the highly contagious illness.
