National Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says three patients tested positive for Covid-19 were currently on ventilator support as the number of active cases continues to rise in the country.

Briefing the media on the latest developments about the Covid-19 crisis, Mabrook said that all three patients were being treated at Treetop Hospital.

He did not offer the details of the patients currently on ventilator support.

He noted that 8 people were under treatment at the Hulhumale Medical facility and that all these patients were admitted in the ward

Health Protection Agency HPA had said that 22 people had tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives taking the total number of positive cases to 2305.

HPA also confirmed that a further 12 people have recovered from the illness in the country. It said that there are 417 active cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives with 1875 people now cured of the highly infectious illness.

HPA reported that 310 individuals remained under isolation while 220 were quarantined at various facilities.

Authorities have said that 8 people have died of Covid-19 in the country including four locals above the age of 80 years.
