The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson and West-Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef comments the Police Service Bill will ensure public will receive trusted service from the authority.

In a tweet the lawmaker states the bill will ensure the police authority's services are acknowledged and their entity warrants respect and admiration from public. MP Latheef further argues intricate discourse will take place prior to the bill becoming an act of the parliament.

The bill was proposed to the Maldives Parliament by Latheef and his preposition have been met with stern criticism from Maldives opposition coalition for the inclusion of expanded powers with the police.

According to the provisions of the proposed bill, the parliament committee is vested with new powers in ordering both Minister of Home Affairs and Commissioner of Police changes to the service.

While the first debate on the bill concluded, several of the ruling party aligned parliamentarians placed heavy criticism on Maldives Police Service towards their current conduct and practices.
