Maldives government have send off a total of 2,499 Bangladeshi nationals without valid travel or visa documents back home.

According to Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives government repatriated the Bangladesh nationals between 21 April and 19 June through 11 flights from Maldivian and through Bangladesh led repatriation operations.

Bangladesh origin Biman Air flight along with two of the country's air force flights operated in repatriating the undocumented expatriates back home. Additionally some of the undocumented expatriates were bunked along with a batch of documented workers in a repatriation flight.

According to the country's national airline Maldivian it had repatriated a total of 200 Bangladesh nationals on Friday, 19 June through its Dhaka bound flight.

The airline had repatriated Bangaldeshis back home through three separate flights in June alone which included repatriation of 200 undocumented nationals of the country in 9 June. An additional total of 400 Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated on 16 June and on Friday.

Earlier, National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez claimed a total of 5,000 expatriates will be repatriated back home in the coming days. He made the announcement during May 2020.
