The Parliament has submitted its recommendations to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the Safe Tourism Guideline that looks to regulate the tourism sector in the ‘new normal’ amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The Parliament proposed that no additional fee should be charged post-COVID-19 and the fees and taxes taken should only be the ones in place before the pandemic hit the shores of Maldives.

The Parliament also recommended that the government should make arrangements to ensure that visiting tourists must not be kept under quarantine once they arrive in the country.

The proposal made to the President includes views from MP for Maafannu Medhu constituency Ibrahim Rasheed, MP for Mathiveri constituency Hassan Zareer, MP for Hinnavaru constituency Jeehan Mahmood as well as Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. It also includes observations made by the parliament committee and was presented to the President bundled as one document by Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

Meanwhile, President Solih has today convened the National Taskforce on Resilience Building and Economic Recovery for its inaugural meeting.

Discussions centered on the Taskforce’s ongoing work to help the Maldives recover from the social and economic impacts of COVID-19, which they shared with the President for his consideration.
