Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali says facemask has now essentially become part of the school uniform as the country looks ahead to the ‘new normal’ way of attending schools amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Briefing the media, Dr. Aishath said that when the schools reopen in the new normal, students, teachers, and even parents couldn’t enter the school without wearing a facemask. She said that the student’s mask would now be part of the uniform code.
The Ministry has advised students to use two types of masks including surgical masks and cloth masks.
Dr. Aishath recommended that the students should use masks made from clothes and said that such masks would be tailor-made for the students and parents. She said that each school has now been given instructions on how to make cloth masks for students and teachers.
The Minister said that once the schools re-open, schools would screen the students at the gate to check for fevers. She said that all the students and staff from the school must wear facemasks.
The schools in the Maldives have been closed since March this as the threat of Covid-19 had made authorities take all necessary action to deter the spread of the virus.
