It has now been a total of 100 days since the Covid-19 virus was discovered in Maldives, claims Health Protection Agency.
According to HPA, the agency have managed to conduct testing on a total of 34,677 individuals to identify presence of Covid-19 virus.
The first ever case from Maldives was reported back on 7 March, while the first 15 cases were all discovered from tourist establishments.
Initially, the Maldives had a controlled environment regarding the spread of the viral contagion as those who were identified with the disease remained in quarantine while the establishments from where the contagion was discovered were put under lockdown.
Such properties were ordered to bar travels both in and out of the venues to ensure the disease did not spread.
However, Maldives experienced a community outbreak after the first case of Covid-19 was discovered from mainland Male' City.
Male' City is among the most densely populated islands or cities in the entire SAARC region, with many sharing accommodation in residential buildings. This lead to an enhancement in the outbreak in the Greater Male' Region.
The first case from Male' City was discovered on 15 April, while Maldives government ordered a lockdown effective to the entire Greater Male' Region.
Since then positive cases surged with higher case numbers were reported every following day.
Meanwhile, the total number of positive cases reported from the country have reached 2035 so far - which includes both active cases and recoveries.
Recently the health authority claimed the recoveries were picking up and have surpassed that of active cases.
As of 14 June, Sunday, the total number of recoveries have reached 1311 which is a 64.42 percent recovery rate. Meanwhile active cases have receded to 714.
So far the country has reported only 8 deaths related to the disease, which is a mortality rate of 0.39 percent, making Maldives list among the countries with the lowest casualty rate related to the virus.
