Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 22 positive cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives as the number of cases in the Maldives edges closes to 2000.
In a tweet, HPA confirmed that 9 Maldivians, 10 Bangladeshis, and 3 Indians tested positive for Covid-19 today. It added that these cases take the total number of positive cases in the Maldives to 1872.
HPA also confirmed that 4 people recovered from the illness today taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 648. It added that there currently 1,215 active cases of Covid-19 in the country.
The Agency confirmed that 1,196 individuals remained under isolation at various facilities while 1,872 people are quarantined in the country.
The Maldives has recorded 7 deaths from Covid-19 and this includes 4 locals and 3 Bangladeshi nationals. The locals who died of Covid-19 were above 80 years of age and this includes 2 women and three men.
The government has been taking several measures to quell the outbreak of Covid-19 including placing the capital Male’ under a strict lockdown since mid-April. Although authorities have eased the measures to an extend, the general public is still not allowed outside without a valid permit from the police.
