Head of IGMH’s National Center for Respiratory Medicine Dr. Moosa Hussain says more than 600 doctors and nurses have been given critical care training in an effort to further prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Moosa said that when the authorities noticed three critical areas while assessing the Covid-19 treatment plan in the country and that these include human resources, Oxygen capacity, and critical care equipment.
Dr. Moosa highlighted that as the whole world is fighting against Covid-19, bringing in doctors and nurses from other countries proved difficult.
He said with this in mind authorities strategized to give critical care training to the doctors and nurses practicing in the country and since then more than 600 healthcare professionals have been trained in the field.
Dr. Moosa lauded the assistance from the World Health Organization and other organizations to conduct the program. He also said that top officials from IGMH, Health Ministry and Tourism Ministry also assisted in organizing these sessions.
Last April, National Emergency Operations Center NEOC spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said that there are 905 licensed doctors and 2970 practicing nurses in the country.
He also said that this would leave two doctors and 7 nurses to treat every 1000 individuals from the population.
He had also said the healthcare workforce could manage the current situation of Covid-19 in the country.
