National Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says the government has plans to build oxygen plants in Addu and Hdh. Kulhudhufushi.

Speaking to the media last night, NEOC Spokesperson Mabrook said that Addu already had an oxygen plant and that the government has already purchased the booster needed for the plant. He said the government was working to bring the booster to the country.

Mabrook clarified that officials are making arrangements that would allow authorities to refill oxygen cylinders from Addu and Kulhudhufushi. He added that this was part of the plans to allow officials to refill oxygen cylinders from the north and south of the country as well as the capital Male’.

Mabrook also said that the government had been working to build regional COVID facilities across the country to combat the pandemic. He noted that these facilities would be built in B. Eydhafushi, Sh. Funadhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, GA. Villigilli, L.Gan, Addu City, and Fuvamulah Cities. He added that all the civil work at these facilities has been completed.

Mabrook said that work to install the backup generators at the facilities was now underway. He also said that the government has planned to send medical equipment to these facilities in two phases. He said that these equipment have been dispatched to the islands in the north and that STO was overseeing the delivery of these shipments.

Mabrook said these facilities would be ready for operations by the middle of the month.
