National Emergency Operations Center NEOC announces 101 new cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives as the country experiences a mini-surge of new positive cases of the illness in the past few days.
Updating the local media on the latest updates from the Covid-19 crisis, NEOC spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said between last night’s press briefing and 6:00 pm of this evening, 101 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the country.
He also said that this has spiked the total number of cases to 1773 in the Maldives.
Speaking at the same briefing, Health Protection Agency’s top epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said that 79 of the 101 tested positive today belonged to the same cluster. He also said that the 101 individuals include 72 Bangladeshi nationals, 21 Indians, and 8 Maldivians.
Officials said that 1313 remained as active cases of Covid-19 in the country as the number of recovered individuals reached 453.
Officials also said that 1403 remained under quarantine at various facilities and 1259 people were under isolation.
Five people have died of Covid-19 in the Maldives including 3 locals and 2 Bangladeshis.
