The Parliament is set to resume sessions inside the parliament building tomorrow with safety and precautionary measures taken amid the lockdown of the capital city due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.
In a statement, the parliament secretariat said that only 42 members would sit for each session. It also said that the members would sit as per social distancing rules set by Health Protection Agency HPA.
The parliament secretariat said even though two members shared a table in the parliament chamber; the new measures would see each member with their own table. It also said that under new measures, when the chamber is voting on legislation or motion each member would cast their vote and exit the chamber. The secretariat added that the rest of the members would then enter the chamber and proceed to cast their votes.
The secretariat also said that it would facilitate these sessions of parliament with minimum staff and that the staff and MPs would all be wearing facemasks. These measures would be enforced by the Sergeants of Arms under the guidance of the speaker of the parliament.
The parliament has been holding its sessions online since the end of March after the government closed its offices amid the Covid-19 crisis. Parliament committee meetings were also held virtually during this time.
