The Japanese government have assisted with a grant of MVR21.7 million to Maldives government.
The East-Asian ally assisted Maldives in the island nation's efforts against the Covid-19 viral pandemic, which has severely impacted the country's economic drive.
Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs attested the grant will help in stimulating the currently stagnant economy of the country.
The total grant amount of MVR21,740,400 by Japan will be directed towards the efforts by government in providing relief for local businesses as well as individuals.
Earlier, Japan's government had granted MVR8.4 million to help Maldives in procuring medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. The aid was also provided in procuring adequate systems for local schools to commence online teaching.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer claimed total grants and loans through foreign finance institutes arranged for Maldives have reached USD290 million.
