The Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) has issued yellow alert between Shaviyani and Faafu atolls.
The weather monitoring authority issued the alert for the nothern region which remained effective between 17:00hrs and 21:00hrs on Wednesday, over worsening weather conditions.
The region experienced heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightning.
Wind speeds picked up pace between 25 to 30 miles and gust picked up 55 miles with rough seas.
The weather authority warned several islands within the region will experience strong tidal waves.
Maldives is currently experiencing its Western-Hemisphere season which often transitions the sunny season into rainy season. Meanwhile, MET Office had also alerted of a storm in close proximity to the country.
