Maldives government's cumulative spending on Covid-19 related efforts have reached MVR873 million in total, reports Ministry of Finance.
According to the ministry's latest COVID-19 Weekly Spending Report, reveals moderate growth in spending from the preceding week's cumulative total at approximately MVR814 million.
Spending pattern retains consistency as the most significant expenses were made through Ministry of Health and National Disaster Managment Authority (NDMA).
Maldives government have expended MVR581.1 million through NDMA and MVR135.7 million through Ministry of Health. All of the expenses are currently directed towards counter efforts in curbing the viral pandemic.
Ministry of Finance report for the week ended revealed MVR84.1 million spent on Covid-19 related efforts from Disaster Management Fund, MVR27 million spent from Tourism Activities Implementation Fund.
Another MVR3 million was spent on the preventive efforts by government from Maldives Zakat Fund.
The weekly report further confirmed additional spending from other state and public bodies which include;
- Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure: MVR28 million
- Maldives National Defense Force: MVR6.4 million
- National Social Protection Agency (NSPA): MVR3 million
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs: MVR3.7 million
In a recent press briefing Ministry of Finance revealed 72% of all the Covid-19 related expenses were managed by largest state-owned enterprise; State Trading Organization (STO).
Meanwhile Ministry of Finance have assigned Auditor General's Office with proper book-keeping and auditing of all state body expenses, especially aimed at Covid-19 related efforts.
