Health Protection Agency’s Medical Officer Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says the newborn child delivered by a Covid-19 patient has tested negative for the virus.
Answering a question by ‘The Press’ during last night’s media briefing, Dr. Nazla said that the newborn was tested for Covid-19 within 24 hours of delivery and that the baby tested negative for Covid-19.
The baby was delivered on the 12th of May via a C-section.
Doctors at Tree Top hospital performed the C-section after the mother was transferred to the hospital from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
The mother of the newborn was tested positive for Covid-19 on the 5th of this month and has been admitted at IGMH two days before.
The medical team who treated this patient including doctors and nurses were tested for Covid-19 with all their samples testing negative for the highly contagious virus.
