N. Manadhoo Island Council says nine individuals isolated from the island have tested positive for Covid-19.
The Council president Mohamed Umar said 31 people were isolated from the island following the discovery of an elderly patient from Manadhoo infected with Covid-19.
Umar said the 31 individuals were tested for the virus after their 14-day mandatory isolation period was over and that 9 of these individuals tested positive for the virus.
Some of the individuals tested positive include staff from the island's hospital.
The Council president said that it has received complaints that some of the individuals isolated regarding this case were seen out and about the island in violation of isolation rules. Umar also said contracting work is currently underway and the citizens of Manadhoo have been instructed to remain indoors. Manadhoo is currently on red alert.
The elderly woman who was shifted from the Island to Male’ tested positive for the virus on the 1st of May. She has tested negative and then positive again since then.
Sources have confirmed to ‘The Press’ the woman had been admitted to the hospital after falling sick and that her family and friends have visited while she was admitted there. Sources also said that some of her family members worked at the market or Baazaru area of Male’.
Since the community spread of the virus was confirmed, the Baazaaru cluster has emerged as a vast cluster of positive cases in the Male’.
