National Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says 21 nurses from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH are currently under isolation.
Mabrook made the confirmation at the latest online news conference held to update the local media on the latest developments of the Covid-19 crisis in the Maldives.
Earlier in the week, IGMH Dr. Ali Nazeem had said that 16 nurses had been placed under isolation after they treated a maternity patient who was later tested positive for Covid-19. The patient had since been moved to Tree Top Hospital for further treatment.
While 16 nurses were isolated in relation to that case, no doctors have yet been sidelined regarding the case.
However, Dr. Nazeem had confirmed that a nurse and a doctor from IGMH had tested positive for Covid-19 but not while on hospital duty.
Rapidly spreading Covid-19 has infected several frontline workers in the country with 5 police officers and 20 MNDF officers stricken with the illness.
Also, 3 staff from STO as well as staff from Maldive Gas, WAMCO, and MPL have also tested positive for the highly contagious virus.
