A police officer has tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives.

Sources have confirmed to ‘The Press’ that the police officer was tested positive for Covid-19 today. Sources also said that authorities have identified the contacts of the individual and that these contacts are now being isolated.

This is the first time a police officer has been tested positive for the virus in the Maldives. Previously, several members of the armed forces, MNDF had tested positive for Covid-19 in the country. The first Maldivian to test positive for Covid-19 was also an MNDF officer who had returned from the UK.

However, Police and Health Protection Agency HPA are yet to confirm this report.

Police and MNDF personnel have been working in the frontline of the fight against Covid-19 in the Maldives with many forced to stay away from their families.

Sources have said that although most of the individuals who had direct contact with the infected police officer have been staying away from their families, some contacts have recently returned back to their families.
