Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 23 new positive cases of Covid-19 in Maldives taking the daily positive cases to a staggering 73.

During the press briefing held virtually from Dharubaaruge, HPA’s Dr. Ibrahim Afazal said that additional 23 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed adding to the 50 reported earlier today.

More than 50 Bangladeshi nationals were tested positive for the global pandemic with several Maldivans, Indians and one Pakistani national also tested positive for Covid-19 today.

Today’s positive cases breakdown;

  • 61 Bangladeshis
  • 9 Maldivians
  • 2 Indians
  • 1 Pakistani

Today’s cases takes the total number of cases from Male’ Area alone to above 190 and the total number of positive cases in the country has now reached 214.

Authorities had previously identified that in case of a community spread of the virus, the expat community would be the most vulnerable to the illness with most living in congested housing quarters.
