Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says the situation in the capital Male’ does not warrantee that the lockdown currently in place be lifted and that the lockdown might yet be prolonged.

Updating local reporters on the latest developments against Covid-19 in the country, Minister Ameen said with the lockdown of Male’ Area set to expire on the 30th of this month, the current situation does not call for the lockdown to be lifted.

Ameen said the citizens of Male’ Area might still have to stay under lockdown for some time and that this was required to deter the sudden spread of the Covid-19 virus in the country.

The Minister said in case of an escalation of positive cases the country’s health system would be overwhelmed and the lockdown cannot be lifted for this reason. He said if more activities are undertaken at this moment, the spread of the virus might yet spike up.
