The Maldivian public are getting scared over the wrong reasons amid the total lockdown exercised in Greater Male' Region; says Police.

According to Maldives Police Service, locals who fear of getting fined for violating the lockdown regulations are getting scared for 'all the wrong reasons.'

The local law enforcement authority further commented the public should be cautious and alarmed about their acts of defiance becoming the cause for further spread of the COVID-19 virus across the city.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, during a press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), confirmed several individuals have been held on road by officers for violating lockdown rules.

ACP Naveen attested many were halted for the absence of valid permits, which must be acquired from the authority prior to trips outside for necessary needs.

So far, Maldives Police have fined more than 100 individuals for the breach of regulations while another 21 were arrested for repeatedly offending against the state impositioned rules.
