Maldives Police Services says 95 people were fined and another 15 were apprehended for violating lockdown regulations yesterday.
Greater Male’ area has been under lockdown since 15th of April following the discovery of its first Covid-19 case with police vowing to take stronger measures to implement the lockdown order.
Police said yesterday 95 people were fined for breaking lockdown rules. Police had said before that individuals found outdoors without a valid pass during the current lockdown would be fined by MRF 1000.
Police also said 15 others were apprehended for repeatedly breaking lockdown regulations yesterday.
Yesterday’s arrest statistics had outdone all the days before it during the lockdown.
Detailing the statistics, Police said 82 people were fined from Male’ while 4 in Hulhumale and 9 in Male’ were levied too.
A total of 312 people have been fined since the lockdown measures were implemented in Male’ Area with 280 fined in Male’ alone. Police had fined 16 people in Vilimale for breaking lockdown rules while another 16 had been fined in Hulhumale.
HPA had said that the lockdown would be implemented for fourteen days bringing the country’s capital to a standstill. But a total of 74 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Male’ in just under a week and the lockdown would mostly likely would be extended.
