Maldives Police Service confirm they are monitoring overcrowded expat residences.
The local law enforcement authority has confirmed a total of 6 different residencies with crowded expat residents, under monitoring. Meanwhile, movement out of such residences have been restricted only for basic necessity 'runs'.
Police further commented the stricter conduct towards expat residencies come due to the living standards, conditions - which have a higher probability of contracting viral diseases.
Several news and reports from local media confirm many Bangladeshi nationals are sheltered in undignified living conditions in the Maldives capital, giving rise to complaints over ill treatment and discrimination against them.
Most abodes specific for Bangladeshi nationals force overwhelming numbers of them to bunk together, which also give rise to unsafe and unhygenic living conditions.
