The largest telecommunication provider on Wednesday, 22 April, announced its decision to unprecedentedly postpone their sporting event.
Regarded as the largest annual run, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) event's 14th edition initially scheduled for the year have been pushed back without any confirmed alternative dates.
In their statement, Dhiraagu said "social distancing being the key to contain the spread of COVID-19, we have also decided not to host any major events during this year which involves mass participation and public gathering."
Bemoaning its decision to postpone the largest running event in the country, Dhiraagu claimed its first priority was to place the health and safety of the runners, supporters and the community.
The telecom giant further expressed they are fully focused "on responding to COVID-19 to support" their customers, staff, government, authorities and the entire community.
