Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal says in the fight against global Pandemic Covid-19, members of the armed forces will continue to serve their country until the last solider is left standing.

Speaking on the occasion of the 128th anniversary of the armed forces, Maldives National Defense Force MNDF’s chief of Defense Force Major General Shamaal said, members of the armed forces are making huge scarifies to guarantee the safety of Maldivians amid the Covid-19 outbreak in the country. He said the armed forces would not hesitate to make more sacrifices for the well being of the country.

Shamaal highlighted that while Male’ Area is under lockdown after the community spread of the Covid-19 virus, MNDF personnel have been involved in transporting individuals, making arrangements for those placed under quarantine and also managing facilities related to the crisis.

Shamaal said these soldiers were working away from their families for long periods of time in the service of the country.

Major General Shamaal noted that in the past year MNDF have achieved many triumphs including implementing new revisions to the operation of the armed forces as well as strengthen welfare of the soldiers. He pointed that MNDF have also strived to foster a better relationship with the civilians.

The armed forces of the country turn 128 today. The forces were first formed under the reign of Nooradheen Bandaarain. The country’s first commander was Meerubahuru Ismail Didi.
