Spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates in Maldives Mohamed Mabrouk Azeez says contact tracing of the Covid-19 cases in Male’ has identified several elderly persons as contacts of the infected individuals.

Meeting the member of the press via a virtual news conference, Mabrouk said most of the individuals who tested positive are between 30 to 40 years of age and that no elderly person is yet to test positive for the highly contagious virus.

But he said several elderly persons have been identified as contacts of the positive cases during the contact tracing of the infected individuals.

World health experts concur that Covid-19 effects the elderly more than it affects young people and often times prove fatal for older people.

With the community spread of the virus now confirmed by HPA, authorities are gearing up to fight the global pandemic, which has brought the country to a grinding halt.
