The Maldives Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced it will be investigating for any corrupt conduct with regards to government efforts in countering COVID-19.
ACC claims the commission understood of public speculation and concerns with regards to state's financial efforts in the attempt to offset economic damage for local businesses and individuals.
The commission notes it is discussing with relevant authorities to monitor and assess for any corrupt conduct from government bodies and institutions amid the viral pandemic.
Moreover, ACC acknowledges the mounting complaints by locals on social media platforms over dubious conduct from state institutions.
Meanwhile, the commission has requested from public to report any suspicious acts of corruption and assist the authority in gathering evidence and facts for such occurence.
ACC commented the authority was currently researching and assessing to formulate regulations and policies in order to counter corruption in state bodies.
The commission further pressed on importance of accountability and transparency in state bodies towards their conduct; and added the government and its institutions should be accountable to public.
