Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says authorities have noticed that some individuals are concealing Covid-19 like symptoms to escape the preventive measures taken against the global pandemic.

Speaking to the media, Minister Ameen said instances where some resort staff had hidden Covid-19 like symptoms in order to leave the resort have been reported.

Minister clarified that if a resort does not record any tourist activity within 14 days of its newest tourist arrival, then the staff from the resort can leave the island. But he said that the resort management should complete the necessary paperwork declaring that no tourist activity had occurred in 14 days.

Ameen highlighted that although the frequency of positive cases and suspected cases have now declined, this was not the time to let our guards down. He urged all to keep taking all necessary preventive actions.

Minister called on resort staffs that leave their respective resorts after 14 days not to conceal Covid-19 like symptoms they have had within those fourteen days in order to hasten their way back to the community. He said instances where some staff has concealed these symptoms as they near fourteen days or when the fourteen days are completed have been reported.

Minister warned that withholding such information in order to get off the island might put the whole country at risk of a massive community spread of this highly contagious illness and urged that all must share such information with the authorities.

Maldives has so far recorded 19 cases of Covid-19 with four Maldivians tested positive for the virus.
