Maldives Parliament says speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed is ready to take a test for global pandemic Covid-19.

This comes after Health Protection Agency HPA announced that all Maldivians who travelled back from the UK between the 14th and 19th of March would be tested for the virus and that their contact screening would also be carried out.

Nasheed returned from the UK on the 15th of March after celebrating his Marriage anniversary with wife Laila.

In a statement Parliament said that when the speaker made the trip to UL, Maldivian authorities had not yet decided to quarantine all those who returned back from the UK and that the government had not yet issued its travel advisory for UK.

The parliament said the Speaker is more than ready to comply with HPA’s instructions and give his full cooperation to the authorities.

During last night’s press briefing while answering a question from ‘The Press’, Official Spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates Mr. Mabrouk Azeez said no exemptions would be made when testing and contact screening the Maldivians who came back from the UK between 14th and 19th of March.

The Government decided to test and screen Maldivians who travelled back from the UK within dates as the three Maldivians so far tested positive for the virus all came back from the UK.
