The Maldives government has announced its decision to cover for the expenses incurred in sending off expatriates without proper work visa and travel documents.

State's decision was confirmed through Ministry of Economic Development, the state institution with the mandated authority in regulating expatriate movement in Maldives.

Moreoever, Maldives government will be acquiring and extracting all relevant documents from the respective high-commissions or embassies to ease expatriate send-off.

Ministry of Economic Development has advised from expatriates who fall into the mentioned criteria to forward their passport number or their identification number to +960 7205648 for processions.

The island nation reports over thousands of expatriates, most of whom belong to Bangladesh working in Maldives without validated work visa or travel documents.

The decision comes amid the COVID-19 outbreak that has been rapidly spreading across the globe, while Maldives reported of the presence of the virus as well.

Earlier, Maldives government announced its steps to reduce the economic damage to the island nation in light of the viral outbreak that has been affecting the local economy.
