The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives confirms the suspected cases for COVID-19 from Shaviyani atoll Foakaidhoo and Universal ticketing office were tested negative.
The three individuals suspected for COVID-19 were sequestered for isolated treatment at Farukolhufushi.
Meanwhile a new case have been reported from Alif Dhaal Vilamendhoo, suspected for the novel coronavirus. HPA is currently attempting to isolate the individual and screen for presence of the virus.
HPA further reports, the agency was currently attempting to isolate eight expatriate for screening after they have been suspected to have come in 'contact' with an individual tested positive for the virus.
The first positive cases for the now pandemic virus was reported from a local resort; Kuredu Island Resort. Two expatriate workers employed at the resort were found positive while two more were revealed through contact tracing done through the initial positive cases.
Meanwhile, it was reported two individuals from Sandy's Bathalaa Resort were tested positive for the virus as well.
At such scenarios, the islands become lockdown restricting transportation in and out of the island to avoid further spread of the virus.
Maldives is currently given a yellow alert status with regards to the presence and intensity of COVID-19 spread, however the tourist resort of Kuredu Island is on Orange alert level.
Moreover, the Maldives government has temporarily ceased gateway entrance and arrivals from China, Italy, Iran, Bangladesh and two regions from South Korea.
