Prominent Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) lawmaker retorts to former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed over Friday night's PPM led rally.

The former Vice President was quoted stating Friday night's rally led by the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was evident on the public's acknowledgement and acceptance for former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

However, the outspoken ruling party lawmaker differed with this statement.

According to Dr. Jameel, Friday evening's rally proved the Maldivian public was disenchanted with the current administration. He added the rally was evidence of the public refusing room for corruption and scandals, which have become rampant in the MDP led government.

Moreover, the large number of attendees at the opposition rally was also a testament on the Maldivian public's stance towards challenges on the Islamic religion as well as the independence of the country.

Dr. Jameel further claimed the opposition's rally had also given a response on parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who helms the ruling MDP, regarding his policies.

These statements were aptly rebuked by the ruling party lawmaker, who in response claimed the Friday evening's rally proved clearly different circumstances.

The North-Maafannu constituency lawmaker Imthiyaz Fahmy claimed the rally was evidence, the current administration does not impede on the right to gathering, as well it upheld freedom of expression.

Fahmy's response was a jab at the previous PPM led government, which was alleged for impeding the freedom of gathering and movement by the then opposing factions.
